Viewing + astrophotography -- high mountains in the US?

Many peaks in Colorado above 3000m are readily accessible, and offer
very dark skies, very high transparency, and a high probability of
clear weather. However, the jet stream commonly crosses Colorado,
which means the seeing tends to be poor. If you're interested in wide
field imaging, or visual acquisition of faint fuzzies it's a great
place. If you're interested in high resolution imaging or viewing, not
so much. For that I'd suggest perhaps Arizona. Plenty of dark sites,
good weather (except for the summer monsoons), and extremely good
seeing.
