Default Lunar Image Anomaly

subject is probably better covered there]

* Dan :

I would like to solicit comment vis-a-vis an image (taken by an amateur
astronomer) that appears to show two dark objects which quickly traversed
the lunar disk.

The images may be viewed he

Has anyone on-list ever observed anything similar?

It isn't that uncommon for observers to see satellites transit the moon as
observed from their location; you can even download software that lets you
calculate these transits.

See URL:http://iss-transit.sourceforge.net/ as an example of this sort of
software (in this case it deals with transits by the ISS).

There are, of course, lots of other mundane explanations for this sort of
image. URL:http://aaoj.homestead.com/files/unusual.htm was one random
report that a quick Google search turned up.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for looking at this. The satellite hypothesis would seem
to fall due to the relative speed and size factors (see the Tom
DeMary's analysis). As suggested in the link you provided,
balloons would be a possibility; the profile of a balloon
observation would appear to be consistent with all the data.

All the best,
Dan
