Default Anyone Know About String Theory?

Hi -- not part of this newsgroup but thought someone here might know where to
direct me -- a math idiot -- to learn most basic things about string theory.

Thanks in advance for help

Why not read a book? For example, "the elegant universe" by Brian Greene.

Hi Rosena Brian Greene's book "the elegant universe" is in your
library. NOVA had him do a program all about strings, and you can get
that. Witten has given us the M-Theory that helps tie the knots in
string theory(small pun) Seems only one great brain can do the math
needed for the string theory, and the name of that brain is Edward
Witten I've been studying String Theory since 1978,and know very
little. I do like its use of branes, and Witten gave me that. Bert

Since you're in the newsgroups you might as well check out:
sci.physics.strings

Brian Greene is definitely the author that could help you understand the
concept. I have Steven Hawkings, The Universe in a Nutshell, and he
does go on to explain some of the basics there as well.

You can watch the PBS/Nova show online at...
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/

Also check your local listings because the show is also televised on
PBS.

Thanks for the link, interesting program, would you happen to know if
the programs in the archive are or will be available or are they rotated
and shown frequently because they don't seem to have the programs in the
archive for viewing and there looks to be some interesting stuff there.

Across the top bar, just below the "NOVA" there is a link "Watch Nova
Online". There are three One Hour episodes to watch Online with Quicklime
or RealVideo.
