Default Water ice at south pole of Mars.

My immediate gut feeling when hearing about the second region was that the
south pole of Mars might be almost entirely made of water ice, and only be
covered by a relatively thin layer of CO2 ice. Any comments on this and what
implications it might have for the size of any sea that might have existed
on Mars in the past?

Enuf for a global ocean 20 meters deep.
