According to Wikipedia:

"He is currently chairman of the board of directors of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.

"He and his wife reside in New Braunfels, Texas. Recreational interests include hunting, fishing, reading, and playing golf."

"He became a Christian ... and is active in prison ministry."

All sort of remote, eh?

I have noticed that that several astronauts became active Christians around the same time in the early/mid '70s and thought that James Irwin probably was probably involved.

It always struck me that a fair number of the moon-walkers ended up moving
towards some form of religiosity after their walks. I've never delved too
deeply, but I wonder if the awe of being in such an overwhelming place had a
lot to do with it.

Obviously not everyone felt the same way, but a few appear to have.
