... Ref: http://spaceweather.com/ AURORA OUTLOOK: Sky watchers should be alert for auroras after nightfall on July 11th when Earth is expected to encounter a solar wind stream flowing from a coronal hole on the sun. The best observing sites will be at high latitudes: e.g., southern parts of Australia and New Zealand, Canada, and northern US states like Wisconsin and Michigan. -Sam Wormley http://edu-observatory.org/eo/aurora.html Indeed, I'm getting a gonzo show above Calgary, Alberta right now (11:30pm MDT). The sky's not even dark yet, I'm within the urban light dome, and yet I'm already seeing blatant red trimmings on the undersides of the curtains. Amazing... I'm gonna drive out of town and get the full show. Good night all! -Jim Jones |
