Default Buying 2nd hand

Hi all,

I am looking to buy my first telescope, and what I have in mind is a 8''
Schmidt-Cassegrain, probably Celestron. If I buy 2nd hand, what does one
check on the scope? I am used to buying 2nd hand cameras and lenses, but
have no experience with scopes. Would you recommend going for a new one to
be on the safe side?

One answer:

Read Rod Mollise's "Uncle Rod's Used SCT Buyer's Guide":

www.astromart.com is the best place for buying used gear. Mostly very good
people on there.
