Abandoning Orion for a Next Generation Shuttle?

That keeps everyone on the same page and in the loop. Having your managers blindsided because you are headed off in your own direction, without coordination, is a Bad Thing. It can get people killed. A lot of my work had pretty minimal supervision because I was rated as a national expert and not really supervised. Still, one of my firmest rules was "Never surprise the boss." Been there, done that (within my own tiny domain). My version of that rule was 'always have an explanation ready for the chain of command'. When it came to safety, there were lines even the trusted weren't allowed to cross. Knew of a guy who came to believe that because he was senior and trusted, the rules didn't entirely apply to him... So he violated them, once. The boat ended up with a primary *and* backup system down and the reactor SCRAMed in the middle of the ocean. He ended up junior and a guest in the brig on his way out of the Navy. D. -- Touch-twice life. Eat. Drink. Laugh. http://derekl1963.livejournal.com/ -Resolved: To be more temperate in my postings.
