Default A contemporary look at the Equation of Time

Every single heliocentric astronomical insight depends on the ability
to isolate axial rotation from orbital motion, the original insight of
Copernicus in isolating the orbital motion of the Earth against the
common heliocentric motion of the other planets is based on demolishing
the notion that the Sun moves around the Earth as a daily occurence.

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ima...2000_tezel.gif

As the main interest of the late 17th and 18th centuries in celestial
observation was the determination of terrestial longitudes through
celestial means, the proponents of the celestial sphere method returned
to a geocentric position on the motion of the Sun and rendered the
Equation of Time principles based on axial tilt -

http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/cgi-bin/i...x.x.54 .x.338

The childish analemma emerged from such poor astronomical rendering of
the Equation of Time ,based on the hemisphericaly plotted position of
the Sun against the Equator using an equable 24 hour clock, the entire
astronomical significance of the original Equation of Time correction
became lost, even the two step process which links the pre-Copernican
equable 24 hour day to its heliocentric adaption.

This is a terrible wrong on all counts, historically, technically and
more importantly it infects the ability to intellectually and
intuitively work with productive astronomical principles for such
things as climatology and geology.

Being incorrect by 3 minutes 56 seconds Each Day for the value for
axial rotation must be the biggest festering sore ever,it is so
important to restore the correct value in order to appreciate
heliocentricity or orbital motion in isolation as it is for restoring
axial rotation in isolation for pragmatic purposes such as Earth
sciences.

Default A contemporary look at the Equation of Time

The Equation of Time is the key principle which sets the standard pace
against which all motions can be compared. In its pre-Copernican form it
represents the difference between natural noon and 24 hour clock noon
while its heliocentric adaption it keeps the pace of a 24 hour day in
sync with axial rotation at 15 degrees per hour.

One of the most beautiful and easy to understand accomplishements which
credit both the pre-Copernican and heliocentric astronomers and you
lot opt for introducing celestial sphere geometry as a reference thus
destroying the ability to appreciate the goegeous and pragmatic
system, including the calendrical extension, for a dumb cartoon version
reflecting the level of your astronomical knowledge.

Even a child could tell you that your astronomical justification for
axial and orbital motions generates some many ugly spectacles -

http://astrosun2.astro.cornell.edu/a...dereal_day.gif

Is their some sort of perverse satisfaction in upholding a
counter-productive working principle for axial and orbital motion ?,if
past generations chose to be slavish idiots for counter-productive
concepts, nobody can afford to be now with a really accurate version of
axial and orbital motions needed for climatological studies.

Well... I tried communicating with you on your level. Why do you persist
with this orbital fixation? Don't you know the Earth is flat and goes
around the Sun like a big, blue Frisbie propagating through the Ether? la

Default A contemporary look at the Equation of Time

I cannot say I regret presenting the original words of Copernicus and
Kepler in this forum only to see them cast aside for celestial sphere
observing however there comes a time when any benefit is bound to
diminish the effectiveness of there methods and insights.Even for these
great men,the intricate and majestic combinations of axial and orbital
motions and orientations can be difficult to handle but Kepler's
statement that physical considerations alone can bring an erroneous
muattion back into line.

The Newtonian mutation is easily corrected and especially through
Kepler's words and his Panis Quadregesimalis representation ( Page 86)

http://mitpress.mit.edu/journals/pdf/POSC_13_1_74_0.pdf

Orbital comparisons between Mars and Earth which that representation
represents were icorrectly identified as observations of Mars as seen
from a stationary Earth hence the destructive Newtonian mutation-

"For to the earth planetary motions appear sometimes direct, sometimes
stationary, nay, and sometimes retrograde. But from the sun they are
always seen direct," NEWTON

Kepler's words demolish this statement but lacking the intuitive
intelligence to know the difference will make little difference to
celestial sphere observers and this is why I am finding it more and
more difficult to present the words of these great men and their works
into this particular arena -

"Copernicus, by attributing a single annual motion to the earth,
entirely rids the planets of these extremely intricate coils [spiris],
leading the individual planets into their respective orbits
[orbitas],quite bare and very nearly circular. In the period of time
shown in the diagram, Mars traverses one and the same orbit as many
times as the 'garlands' [corollas] you see looped towards
thecentre, with one extra, making nine times, while at the same time the
Earth repeats its circle sixteen times "
Astronomia Nova 1609 KEPLER

The Equation of Time represents the rate of change of orbital
orientation against the axial rotation of the Earth,it is something
that is vital to grasp for climatological purposes and the temperature
signatures which reflect variations in the Earth's orbital speed and
orientation changes. It is a natural extension of the Keplerian
refinement directed towards terrestial concerns and this is the most
productive route for astronomy and astronomers who recognise that it is
a noble discipline that does not implictly involve telescopes.

Considering the vandalism wrought on astronomy, the king of natural
investigative studies, and on the works of many great men,I have little
to complain about. The intensity of the great works of astronomy lead to
a simplicity rather than the elaborate and exotic schemes that try to
pass themselves off under the astronomical umbrella. The great cycles
whichj make existence possible are cherished to those who approach them
with sincerity and those who live with a human devised celestial sphere
will never find that peace of heart and mind that emerges from a more
sincere approach. There is indeed much to do but parading the works of
Copernicus and Kepler before celestial sphere observers may have been
entirely wrong on my part even if the intentions were sincere.

Good luck to you and your Ra/Dec system
