LEDA 1852: a lonely galaxy inside a cosmic void!
There are huge expanses of space with very little matter in them. You'll
find maybe 1 galaxy in the entire lonely stretch of them. One such galaxy has been imaged by Hubble. NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope Focuses on Lonely Galaxy | Astronomy | Sci-News.com http://www.sci-news.com/astronomy/sc...axy-03417.html |

LEDA 1852: a lonely galaxy inside a cosmic void!
Dear Yousuf Khan:

You'll find maybe 1 galaxy in the entire lonely stretch of them. One such galaxy has been imaged by Hubble. We survey "void spaces", and we get back the spectrum of stars. We see the "missing normal matter" across these void spaces, ionized hydrogen and oxygen missing 5 electrons (so 25 million degrees or so). So they may be huge expanses where there are not the dust clouds (like flying glass and bumper bits of collisions) that allow us to image them, but it is not really correct to say they are empty or even have "very little matter". It is only true to say there are no hot, visible galaxies in them. Good article though, thanks. David A. Smith |
