No Bob, that's you spewing garbage, not Fred.

Many of the "old time posters" said they were leaving due to the

horrible signal to noise ratio on Usenet newsgroups. *You're absolutely

Fred insults near everyone who disagrees with him. he is just plain

obnxious.

If I say a nuclear booster is necessary for a manned mission to mars,

well just look at his responses.

He avoids the subject while insulting the posters

ME? I would rather discuss the topic

Fred can be very blunt at times. But sometimes that's what people need to understand difficult topics. If you can't take criticism, you've no reason to be asking questions or making statements that clearly need criticism.

As seen among those who haven't killfiled him. Those of us who have
just see the "You are an idiot" responses from those who haven't.

By all means then Bob, tell us WHY a nuclear booster is needed.

Bolden has stated publically regular chemical rockets arent good
enough.....

Is that good enough for you?

No.

Just because one person says something doesn't make it so.

That statement in the article wasn't in quotation marks. *Did Bolden
say it or was it editorialization?

Is that good enough for you?

No, Bobbert, because REALITY always wins in the end and a 'regular
chemical rocket' is sufficient to get to Mars and back.

its well known that he said it. and he is the head of nasa. what more
do you want?

besides while driving from new york to japan may be possible by
driving the water portion in a car thats on a boat obviously its not
practical.......

chemical propulsion is just to slow to go round trip earth to mars and
back, because of too much time in deep space, radiation shielding and
lack of gravity.

I just renewed the account so I can continue to moderate sci.space.science
and sci.space.tech, but this is probably the last year.

There are free usenet servers available, if it is the dollars you are
regretting. I presume you would keep internet access for other
purposes (such as accessing NASA servers ;-} ), so that cost isn't
really part of your regrets.

There are, but generally you need more than just a server, you need shell
access or a web-interface to handle the moderation duties.

And moving it would be a huge pain.

So right now it's a question of "do folks post enough" to the moderated
groups and the question is "not sure".

Well, we'll find out sooner or later.
