Saturn occults a star
Wednesday January 25th at 18.45 UT Saturn occults the star SAO 98054, mag
7.9. It seems that you British guys will be far more lucky than us in Northern Italy...if you can see 15 deg above horizon... weather map: http://www.arl.noaa.gov/data/forecas...el10/plt11.gif Thinking that once Italy was "the land of sun"...;-( Have fun and report your results, clear skies, -- Beta Persei 45° 35' N 08° 51' E Remove "_nospam" to reply |

I understood that Italy was "the land of Saturn" (mythological reference),
but it doesn't look as if you'll have much luck seeing that either! "Beta Persei" wrote in message ... Wednesday January 25th at 18.45 UT Saturn occults the star SAO 98054, mag 7.9. Went out last night to see the occultation but missed most of it due to cloud. I'm not sure I actually saw much - could make out what I assumed was titan - but looking at the links provided I think it must have been SAO 98054. Seeing was terrible but was still good fun trying. Marc N54 W1 Hi, I think you'll find it's actually tomorrow! Fantastic - I get another go at it. I could see ( what I initially thought was titan, and guess probably was ) something just past Saturns rings. Maybe it was another moon - but last time I tried I could only see one tiny point of light and assumed it must be the brightest. But this seemed a lot closer to the rings - maybe it was just me. I'm still learning so you'll have to forgive my ineptitude But at least now I can see why I couldn't see what I was expecting to see. Thanks Marc |
