Participation canadienne à la mission spatiale Soyouz Eneide

Longueuil (Québec), le 12 avril 2005 - En décembre dernier, nous annoncions
que Robert Thirsk, astronaute de l'Agence spatiale canadienne, avait été
désigné ingénieur de bord de relève et qu'il s'entraînait en compagnie de
ses collègues européens et russes. L'entraînement était en vue de la mission
Soyouz Eneide, qui doit être lancée à destination de la Station spatiale
internationale le 14 avril 2005.

Si l'astronaute italien Roberto Vittori s'envole comme prévu à bord de la
capsule Soyouz, Robert Thirsk agira alors à titre de CIC (crew interface
coordinator). Après avoir assisté au lancement au Kazakhstan, il se rendra
au tout nouveau centre de contrôle Columbus (Col-C-C) à Oberpfaffenhofen, en
Allemagne. Durant cette mission de 10 jours, si Roberto Vittori éprouve des
problèmes avec les expériences scientifiques qu'il doit effectuer à bord de
la station spatiale, Robert Thirsk, qui a reçu la même formation, tentera de
les résoudre en collaboration avec d'autres membres de l'équipe au sol.

Le lancement sera télédiffusé en direct sur NASA TV
à partir de 20 h, H.A.E.
(Satellite AMC 6, Transpondeur 9, longitude 72 degrés ouest, 3880 MHz, Audio
est à 6,8 MHz)

Canadian Contribution to Soyuz Space Mission Eneide

Longueuil, Quebec, April 12, 2005 - Last December, we announced that
Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Robert Thirsk had been selected as a backup
flight engineer and was training with European and Russian crewmembers. The
training was for the Soyuz flight and the Eneide mission that will
rendezvous with the International Space Station is now scheduled for launch
on April 14, 2005.

If Italian Astronaut Roberto Vittori flies as planned aboard the Soyuz
capsule, Robert Thirsk will assume the role of Crew Interface Coordinator
(CIC). After attending the launch in Kazakhstan, he will head to the newly
operational Columbus Control Centre located in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.
During this 10-day mission, should Roberto Vittori encounter any
difficulties with the science experiments conducted aboard the Space Station
Robert Thirsk, who received the same training will work to find a solution
with the other members of the ground control team.


WHEN Launch is on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 8:46 p.m. EDT
Launch will be broadcast live on NASA TV from 8 p.m.

vertical polarization, audio at 6.8 MHz)

Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Robert Thirsk will be available for
