Default Land of Mt. Hood and the Source of the East Wind

51F here in Gresham as of 12:30 PM on this Sunday. Scattered showers.

Met my old classmate at the Olive Garden Restaurant yesterday. She is still attractive in spite of her age. Shared many reminiscences. She is indeed a very successful businesswoman, having made lots of money in real estate.. She is currently working on remodeling a house in Las Vegas. She travels a lot, having just returned from a "love boat" cruise in the Caribbean. She has offered to give me any help I need. Nice to have friends.

You should start being attracted to their character, Harlow, otherwise you have stunted development.

Well, Felony recently turned 40. I told her she was on borrowed time. Her reply to me is unprintable.
But seriously, she keeps herself in great shape and is a runner. I suppose I'll let her stay.

The girl from my high school days called me again just before I came over to the library today. Our date is for tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
-----------

Harlow's Tips:

Don't tell her about your homeless history.

Compliment her in the most corny manner. Girls love that **** even when they know it's fake.
"Omg! You haven't changed at all since high school".

PAY for lunch!
Don't offer to split it.

Don't let her get away without setting up your next date.

Good luck and be sure to bring condoms

She was happy to pay the whole tab at that spendy restaurant. Of course I did display my best manners, as corny as that seems anymore.

52F here in Gresham as of 1:45 AM PST. Scattered showers and SW breeze 6 mph.

Mt. Hood looms much larger were I am living now. Many things there are named after it: Mt. Hood Community College, The Hood Theater, and Hood Drive. Some things have been named after the east wind too, such as the East Wind Apartments. The east wind is the dominant wind there in the winter. In summer it is nice though, and stays a little cooler than downtown Portland.

Today I am back over in the Cedar Mills Library, since I don't have my Multnomah County library card yet. After lunch with Kim downtown, I came up here. It is currently 51F here with a slight sprinkling of rain starting. Should be dry again in a couple day.

A few days ago I walked over to the Mt. Hood Community College campus. I spent 2 years in school there. Much has changed, but old memories still remain.

"The years run too short and the days too fast
The things you lean on are the things that don't last
Well it's just now and then my line gets cast into these
Time passages
There's something back here that you left behind
Oh time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight

A girl comes towards you
You once used to know
You reach out your hand
But you're all alone, in these
Time passages
I know you're in there, you're just out of sight
Time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight" - Al Stewart

At first I felt a little lost, but then I came upon a spot I clearly remembered. It was where I had gone out there and watched a speech by then President Jimmy Carter in the late 70's. He was the first President I had seen in person! A helicopter brought him in, and Iranian students hiding their faces were demonstrating against the Shaw of Iran.

I finally found the lake that they made by damming up the local creek. I once drove a car across that dam! But if I were to try it now, I would run into a fence. I now must give up any hope of wetting a line in that trout stocked pond, as fishing is now limited to those under 17. Well, that's how I always thought it should be.

I found the basketball court with the dome shaped roof. It is a paraboloid shaped roof which gives an interesting echoic effect at its center. They have wisely covered much of the ceiling with acoustic tile.

There used to be tables and chairs on the east side where students could sit. But now it's all basketball floor. That's were I used to sit and talk with Greta and Susan in those pleasant times.

"The day is here,
The time has come
When I go see my darling love.
But why is she not here today
Where she has always been before?
I wait for you,
But you come not. - AA

I went to the corner of Kane Dr. and Stark St. to look for the stone mile post marker for mile 14 from Portland. It was there back in 1969 when I checked. This were set down every mile along Stark about 150 years ago. Stark led to the Stark St. Ferry, which was the only way to cross the Willamette River back then, before they built the bridges in Portland. The Community College has put up a sign at that corner and surrounded it with rocks and other landscaping. But no sign of the historic mile stone. You would think that the administrators of a college of all people would have some respect for history!

The length of the days stays the same. It will just go back to staying dark until later in the morning, and staying light until later in the evening.

Currently 54F as of 1:15 PM PST here in Gresham. Wind out of the south at 15 mph.

Last night a storm passed through with hurricane strength winds along the Oregon coast. Gusts up to 92 mph at Cape Meares! One person died when a tree fell on their car!

Today the sun is back.

A cool 51F here today in Gresham as of 1:00 PM PST. Wind east at 15 mph. Rain showers about.

I hear of a lot of cases now where people are being jailed for merely expressing a threat. Since when did this stop being covered by free speech?

Don't worry. Young love has its ups and down. Write a sad poem, or paint a sad painting, and soon all will be OK.

A chilly 43F and showers and 14 mph south wind as of 1:30 PM PST here in Gresham. Forecast is for even worse tomorrow.

Temp 45F here in Gresham as of 12:45 PDT. Wind out of the southwest at 18 mph. Intermittent showers.

The weather was really lousy yesterday. Rained all morning. Standing water in the field behind my apartment. And THEN the storm hit! Winds up to 65 mph hit the Oregon coast! Thunder and lightning! Another round of power outages around the greater Portland area. I just stayed home.

In Portland million dollar condominium sales are up. They are hot. Buyers are paying cash. Real estate people think that is great. House sales are also up. Meanwhile rent for the poor increased in Portland by 14% last month! Never have so many people been living in the streets and parks ind the Great Depression of the 1930s! The rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer like never before! What can be done? I predicted this would happen when I first became homeless 9 years ago, but I never really wanted it to happen.

I blame companies like Intel. Local politicians told the people that it would be a good idea to allow them not to pay property taxes, if only they would locate here. People were told that this would create lots of jobs. Fact is, Intel did not create jobs for the locals, except maybe for a few janitorial positions. They brought their own well heeled, well payed employees up from California. It is they who are driving up local housing costs, and displacing the local residents. I could tell most of the people around Hillsboro were from California by the short pants they were still wearing in January!
