This could be a hoax but it's a reputable magazine.

Ver-r-ry interesting. I guess we'll find out at the end of the month.

If so, just don't let the Jesuits send a mission!

Why not? It might have an effect. Have you ever read "The Star" by A. C.
Clarke?

A good story, with a clever twist. But I was thinking of "The Sparrow"
by Mary Doria Russell.

From the summary, it sounds similar, but on a much deeper level.

No, not similar at all, except for a Jesuit protagonist. While the
twist in Clarke's story shakes the faith of one man, the theme of "The
Sparrow" is that the Jesuits are seeking to contact a new civilization
without repeating all the terrible mistakes made when they did that in
the New World. But history repeats itself.

No Project Orion, NO voyage to that system, ever.

Nuclear propulsion is probably a dead-end. Certainly, Orion technology
isn't practical. If we ever launch interstellar probes, it will almost
certainly be using nuclear powered electric propulsion technology.

Probably not a manned mission, but robot probes are a possibility. It may
be that the Oort cloud would make such a journey hazardous. If a probe
hits some space junk, we'd just send another probe, or maybe send out
several at once figuring that at least one will make it through.
