Default gravitational effect on Neo

I am a newbie with a simple yet strangely complex question. How are astroids
effected by passing close to earth? How close would they have to pass to be
effected?

Earth "exerts" influence on other bodies in the solar system, in the same
way other bodies on the solar system "exert" influence on Earth: GRAVITY.

However, because the Earth is much larger than any asteroid, an asteroid
passing Earth would affect the orbit of the asteroid in some way, but
greater than the influence of the asteroid on Earth. The orbit of the
Asteroid would be changed in some way. The actual amount would be dependant
upon the distance of the asteroid, the "speed" of the asteroid, and it's
mass.
