Really?? Even as an agnostic I don't believe that. Look at the 20th
century. The greatest destroyers of civilization and human life were
German National Socialism and Soviet/Chinese Communism. Most estimates
put the combined body count of those two movements at at least 100
million. These two movements were antithetical to all established
religions, with Communism being explicitly atheist. Nazism dabbled with
the idea of replacing Christianity with Germanic Paganism, but Hitler
himself was personally an atheist. Almost certainly more people were
killed in the 20th century in the name of Communism and Nazism than were
killed in the name of any of the major world religions in all prior
centuries.

In short kt, don't fool yourself into thinking that Atheists have the
market cornered on rationality and civilization. Atheists are as
capable as any other group in producing assholes.
