ATTENTION:

* Ron Ekers (outgoing IAU President)
* Catherine Cesarsky (incoming IAU President, Member of the Planet
Definition Committee)
* Jan Palous (Chair of the National Organising Committee)
* Richard Binzel (Member of the Planet Definition Committee)
* Karel van der Hucht (incoming Secretary General)

Some things are immutable and we thought that there will always be four
seasons, seven Dwarfs, four Beatles, three Stooges and nine planets (see
articles, here and here).

We, the signatories herein, comprising of concerned citizens of the
world strongly object to the decision and seek the IMMEDIATE REVERSAL of
the Result of the IAU Resolution votes to demote Pluto from a planet to
a ‘dwarf planet’. Furthermore, experts like University of Tennessee
Physics Professor Bill Blass (see WBIR.com article) and NASA’s head of
New Horizons mission to Pluto, Dr Alan Stern, ridicules the definition
and states that it would have never passed ‘peer review’ (see BBC article).

We trust that the International Astronomical Union (IAU) will take into
account the feedback of the concerned citizens and experts seriously
enough to consider the reversal of their decision.

Sincerely,

Concerned citizens (see the list of signatories and their own comments)

A reversal? Go from a formal definition of Solar System "planet" back to
no definition?

Reconvene the IAU? You must be an IAU member looking for a second paid
vacation.
