I am not happy about the militarization of space. But that is the real
world. These guys live in a dream world and want to go back to living
in caves and devolving back to tree slime. Nuclear propulsion is
feasible and capable of taking thousands of settlers to Mars per day.
That is why I support nuclear rockets. That is why we must counter
this PR threat to Nuclear Propulsion.

KEEP SPACE FOR PEACE WEEK
INT'L DAYS OF PROTEST TO STOP THE MILITARIZATION OF SPACE
OCTOBER 4-11, 2003

NO STAR WARS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT!
NO THEATRE MISSILE DEFENSE!
NO NUCLEAR ROCKET!
FUND HUMAN NEEDS!

The Global Network is now compiling the list of local actions for this
year's Keep Space for Peace Week, October 4-11. The recent war in
Iraq
has dramatically shown how space technology is now the key element in
modern warfare. Thus the U.S. call to "control and dominate space,"
knowing that this technology will allow the U.S. to control the Earth
on
behalf of the multi-national corporate interests.

The enormous cost of the new space arms race is already proving to
come
at the expense of such needed programs as education, health care,
environmental clean-up, social security and the like. The question of
what
provides real "security" to the world should be a key point of
emphasis
in our work.

Please send us the date of your planned local action, the location and
a contact person for the event. We plan to publicize all the actions
widely. Please note below our speakers bureau for the week.

Keep Space for Peace Week posters (see our website
http://www.space4peace.org)
are now available and can be obtained from the Global Network for $3
each, five for $10.

Thanks for your support.

Please contact these people directly to negotiate speaking dates,
travel expenses, etc. during the week of local actions. They all have
considerable expertise on the space issue.

Indeed. These guys think they've discovered something new, but space
has been 'militarized' almost from day one. Aside from the fact that
almost all launchers are derived from ballistic missile weapons, the
military has long depended on satellites for communications,
reconnisance and weather observations (they run their own weathersats,
seperate from the civil ones) and navigation (Does Greenpeace ever use
GPS?) to a steadily increasing extent since the early sixties.

They forget that military *assets* are not necessairily *weapons.*

But if, as we all hope, access to orbit gets more economical and
frequent, those assets will be in greater need of protection.

These guys live in a dream world and want to go back to living
in caves and devolving back to tree slime. Nuclear propulsion is

And there's no obvious military aplication for a nuclear thermal
rocket. Nuclear power for ion, plasma and other electric rockets may
share some commonality with orbiting military systems that need more
than solar panels can provide [or need high-thrust orbit changing/ASAT
evasion ability that would tear them off, and/or make a a more compact,
stealthier sat possible], but if the DoD had a great need for one (and
got the funding), you'd likely hear little about it in order to protest,
anyway.

Only the open, civil programs are subject to this nonsense.

That is why I support nuclear rockets. That is why we must counter
this PR threat to Nuclear Propulsion.

Like I said, in some ways, it's too late. All we can hope to do is
continue to keep weapons of mass destruction (when that meant only
nuclear weapons) from being based beyond the atmosphere.

NO STAR WARS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT!
NO THEATRE MISSILE DEFENSE!

Hmmm. They need to talk to Israel about that one. Continued North
Korean missile tests could give Japan second thoughts, too.

NO NUCLEAR ROCKET!

Then goodbye to ever sending humans farther than Mars....

FUND HUMAN NEEDS!

Last I saw, that was still happening, with far larger budgets. How
effectively? That's another story.
