I suppose that you mean we have the technology according to proponents
of Mars Direct. I heard Robert Zubrin speak last year and talked to
him afterwards. His program sounds feasible enough but, IMO, the plan
(which appears in the June issue of Astronomy) by Paul Spudis to set
up a functional lunar colony makes a lot more sense for the near
future, assuming that there is usable water at the lunar poles. At
the very least this plan would give the ISS a valid reason to exist.
