Solar continuum filter
Hi all,
I was wondering is anyone is using one of these filters to view the Sun (in tandem with a white light filter). e.g. http://www.firstlightoptics.com/prod...prod=bsolconti Are they any good? I've seen the Baader SCF available from many dealers and hopefully someone can give an honest opinion about its performance. How useful are they with a DSLR? Robert |

Robert I'd be unhappy about anything meant for use as an eyepiece threaded fitting, even if intended only for use in conjunction with a white light filter on the front of the scope. Sooner or later someone may cause themselves a serious eye injury by omitting the front filter over the objective. -- Mike Dworetsky (Remove pants sp*mbl*ck to reply) |

I am not convinced that it would be noticeably better than a Wratten 74 (mercury green line) filter (or cheaper a green Wratten 58). It is essential to have the Baader film on the scope as well though. For photography Baader also do a less dense film that is camera safe, but **not** visually safe. It allows shorter exposures that will help freeze the seeing. As ever take care when observing the sun with a telescope - you only get one pair of eyes. Regards, Martin Brown |
