I've always wondered "WHY" any group that has "West Cost", Pacific", etc. in
it's title always seems to have it's meetings on the frozen east cost during
the worst coldest time in the year.

Indeed. It's quite obvious that "Starlord," whose posts no longer reach
me directly for some reason, hasn't been out much.

I've been threw 49 of the 50 states and all before I even went into the
Army.

I didn't notice the date, but still wonder "Why" any group that's suppost to
be for the West, meets back East.

It's a question I've asked a many outfits and never gotten anything but a
lame answer back.

I was there in August of last year. It was like being in hell. I _did_ get
to look through the 13" refractor at the Maryland Science Center though. In
a heat index of 105!

The weather is always better elsewhere, and clear skys
are at least 1000 miles(in any direction).

Jesus! That's because it's such a lame question! The ASP is not
"suppost" to be for the West, whatever that means.

Visit the ASP web site and read that "...the ASP has become the largest
general astronomy society in the world, with members from over 70
nations. The ASP Board of Directors is comprised of members of the
astronomy, educational, and amateur communities."

I live a few miles south of Baltimore, closer to Annapolis. It must be
from all those years of living in SE Asia, on or near the Equator, and
in the Eastern Sahara and Persian Gulf* -- I wore a sweater throughout
August.

Davoud

Seriously, when I was living in Khartoum (mid 130's F every summer day,
lows around 105-110 in the early hours) a friend arrived from the Gulf
and said "If I had known it was so cool here I'd have brought a
sweater!"

I see a name "Astronomical Society of the PACIFIC" Now that last time I
looked, the Pacific is WEST of even where I'm at. If its not just for the
Pacific rim area, then maybe they should change Pacific to WORLD.

Anyway, that's my opion. When ever I see ANY kind of group, be it for
plants, model rockets, etc. and it has Pacific in it's name, I figure they
mean they cover the Pac.Rim area of the world or at lest the West cost of
the USA.

Yet, I've seen those same groups always hold their meetings away back east,
heck a fem more miles east and they could be on the bottem of the other
ocean.
