Default Owners of the Meade LX100 telescopes, unite!

From what I've seen, there's probably 5 of us worldwide.

Explaining the various types of Schmidt-Cassegrain systems to a new club
member last weekend has prompted me to post this message. I've upgraded my
scope to the point of where it is really a LX200, or as I like to call it, a
LX100+50+50.

The LX100 is a non-goto version of the LX200. While trying to diagnose why
my DEC motor was too slow for guiding, I discovered that even the motors
were identical to the LX200. The problem was the DEC motor thought it was
driving the worm on an LX200 instead of the tangent arm system on the LX100.
Although Meade told me it wouldn't work, I replaced my right arm fork with
one from an LX200. It worked like charm. Now I had DEC speeds that matched
my RA speeds. After running my scope for a while in this mode, I decided I
might as well go with full GOTO. I purchased an LX200 motherboard, hand
control, and power panel off of AstroMart. It was as simple as removing my
old stuff, and installing the newly purchased stuff. No custom
modifications needed.

Now, the only difference between my scope and a LX200 is that my optical
tube assembly still says LX100.

So if any of you other four LX100 owners out there want to convert to GOTO,
this path is easy and painless. If nothing else, you should replace the
right fork arm so you can have easy electronic slewing.

FYI,

Jeff
