Default Adieu, and thanks, Ed Ting

I learned from the Astromart Equipment forum group that Ed Ting is
retiring from telescope reviews. I checked his web site and I find
this to be true. This is a big loss for amateur astronomy. It is
clearly the best review site and many amateurs benefited from reading
his astute and frank comments, msking much better equipment choices.
I am told that a contributing factor to his doing far fewer reviews
in the last couple of years was a threatened lawasuit from
the manufacturer of a corrector lens assembly.
Maybe Ed will return to reviewing some time. His reviews were a
really crative contribution to amateur astronomy.

A refractor corrector lens assembly? I thought that all got amicably
(ish) sorted out..?

I'm sure for Ed it was a lot of fun while it lasted, but he got sloppy.
That's probably not going to be popular commentary.

Only if it remains unsubstantiated.

Translation: What in particular did you find sloppy?

Were they? I shall think not.

Hi Bill,

I don't see anything to that effect on Ed's website. There is a new
review from 4 days ago. Where did you see this on his site???

From Ed's website:
OK, folks, that's it for a while. I'm going to give this reviewing thing a
rest. It's
been years since I've gone observing just for the pleasure of it, and it's
high time
I get back to it. Scopereviews is now on official hiatus! You'll see some
articles
by me from time to time in the astronomy magazines, but by and large I'm
going
to take it easy. Enjoy these archived reviews, and I'll see you under the
stars!

Thanks Ed. Your reviews have been most enlightening. Also thanks for
taking the time to help me with your expertise.

Peace,
Jon

Not that I think this needs any explanation.... but....

http://www.scopereviews.com/page3g.html

The original, and now "missing". review# 4.

Replaced with the incorrectly listed in the table of contents, "corrected"
review of said item.

Everyone is fallible.
