I've got one that I've fooled around with a little. The Celestron
NexImage basically is a webcam with a 1-1/4 barrel where the lens goes
on a regular webcam.

It is in fact electronically and firmware-wise identical to the Toucam Pro.
The RAW firmware mod can be done and it can be modified for long exposure
deep sky work using Steve Chamber's mod ( It is easier to mod than the
Toucam as it is built on two boards)

Amazing that celestron tells you how to screw with their product without any
mention of warranty
effects.

The other thing to consider is the Meade #902 lectronic EP. Currently $40
at telescopes.com. I've seen some very nice solar (thru a PST) and lunar
photos and videos posted using this (B&W) device. Seems like a bargain
and fun at that price. Output is composite video.

I got one last week. Good deal. I am at odds with black and white but at
40 bucks,
and a little portable TV , what the heck! Camping will have a new
dimension.

I just ordered one and should have it tomorrow. Since I plan to use it
mostly with my PST (reports of such use have been wildly successful at
Cloudy Nights, where one fellow even used Photoshop to restore the red
coloring!) and the moon, B&W won't be all that troublesome. I'll use my
camcorder to view and record images.

BTW .. do you have any idea what the equivalent focal length is? (Seems
like a good question for EP Guy!).
