... apparently manned missions to the moon & Mars are being
politically resurrected again but I am beginning to wonder if the huge
cost of the resources/overhead of putting human crews onboard is
really worth it. Obviously we now have the technology to go & land on
other planets but I just do not see the necessary improvements in life
support technology that would reduce the huge burden of putting humans
onboard. Of course the ISS will provide lots of data but it seems to
me that some major quantum leaps in science/technology will be needed
before sending crews to other planets.

Of course it's worth it, bcause it is fun!

....and given the inevitably dull routine of their lives, we can be sure
that enouhgh Canadians will volunteer to fill the roster. What's three
years to mars comapred to a few Northern Winters? Can NASA "MRE"s be any
less exciting than poutrine? ....and the chance for a good job on Mars is
likely better than employment in Newfoundland.

Recruit here in January and you'd have to beat us back with sticks...
In June we would all be fleeing bug-eyed, well, bugs....

Good points for Mars over Newfoundland:
1.) Far less chance of being attacked by a Giant Squid.
(Newfoundland is noted as the Giant Squid stranding capital of the
world....you want to run into one of these things unexpectedly?:
