Default So Where Are The Aliens ?

Suppose that we are th only intelligent species in the whole universe.
Now remove the earth from the universe.

The result is that, removing the Earth, the universe can't understand
itself (via the human brain) anymore.

In this case the difference caused by our disappearance would be huge.

I would rather assume that physical law is the same everywhere.
In the first 2 billion years on earth live started a number of times,
proved by checking deposit layers in very old rocks.
Given that, it would be very silly to assume that this would not happen
elsewhere.
Results would differ in all sorts of ways, of course.

I agree with you that life can exist in many planets of our universe.
But a species with consciousness and abstract thinking (like us) seem to
me really unlikely.
This is the reason why I think the human race is special even on a small
planet rotating around a remote star.
I know this is an Hyper-Anthropic idea but I like it...

Nope. Take earth out & the universe looks exactly the same. Don't
forget intelligent humans have only been around for a couple seconds on
a cosmic scale. Very presumptuous to think we are in any way significant.

But in a couple of seconds in a cosmic scale we have almost understood
the structure of the whole universe.
And we have achieved that using infinitesimal instruments and our
infinitesimal brain.
In just more than a kilo of matter, well protected in our head, we have
the vision of the cosmos.
Not so bad for a fragile species on a remote planet.

This makes me more than presumptuous about our significance.
I like to say that we are the universe that understand itself.

You're kidding? All we've done is observed galaxies a long way away.
Doesn't take rocket science to look. We hardly know anything on a
cosmic scale. We haven't even explored our ocean floor and can't
explain why gravity exists, how stars form, black holes, dark
matter/energy etc etc

Nope, just some idea of the visible universe.

You're easily impressed. It's a human thing.

This makes me more than presumptuous about our significance.

Humans have no future. At some point we will never exist again. Enjoy
the short ride : )

Give us another couple of seconds and we'll see... :-)
