I am reporting this as spam. A similar begging letter is running in a
parallel thread.

wow I am just amazed at the rancor and hate this has caused.

let me tell you a short story... in 99 or 2000 I spent a month in
Scotland with 2 other americans (Business) one weekend we traveled to
Glasgow for some clubbing (bar hopping). there were people on the
streets with cans for donations for kids charities and each time I
was approached I dropped a couple of bucks worth into the can while
the others with me, Scots included, were saying "already gave". after
several tins had been added to by me one of the group asked "why do
you give each time" my answer was only this...." it's for the kids"
I have absolutely no guilt in this "spamming" if that's what you want
to think it is because ....It's for a kid ... so blow it out your ass

Without rancor, or any personal judgement on my part, here is what the Make
A Wish Foundation (which actually exists) says about such emails in general:

http://www.wish.org/about/chain_letters

Chain Letters

Each day, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and its chapters receive hundreds of
inquiries about chain letters claiming to be associated with the Foundation
and featuring sick children. However, we do not participate in these kinds
of wishes. Some names associated with these wishes a Amirtha, Jessie
Anderson, Shane Bernier, Matt Dawson, Chad Briody , Amy Bruce, Jeff DeLeon,
Rhyan Desquetado, Anthony Hebrank, LaNisha Jackson, Nikisha Johnson, Craig
Sheldon, Craig Shelford, Craig Shelton, Craig Sheppard, Craig Shergold,
Bryan Warner and Kayla Wightman.

If you receive a chain letter claiming ties to the Foundation, please:
a.. Inform the sender that the Foundation does not participate in chain
letter wishes.
b.. Refer the sender and all recipients to this page.
c.. Do not forward the chain letter.
d.. Refer senders to ways they can help the Foundation, such as referring
a child, making a donation, donating their time & talents, or donating
treasures

Google: wow, the things you can find out...

Further to my previous post: There is a web site for this child called
Riley's Army. Curiously, there is nothing on the open parts of the web site
that says anything about sending a million get well cards, but there is
plenty about donating time and money towards the cause of supporting similar
children and cancer research.

http://www.rileysarmy.com/

I have found blogs that describe Riley and the get well letters in some
detail, so this part may be partly legit, but it has nothing to do with the
Make A Wish Foundation. However...

In reply to a previous post of the same stuff by David Staup, on another
newsgroup, persons stating they were Riley's parents said:

"Riley Philpot is a 9 y/o who has battled cancer for the past 3 1/2
years and who did relapse for the 2nd time 6 weeks ago. Upon relapse
she requested for cards to be sent, however this was only a request
sent out on her carepage site by us her parents-It was not a Make-A-
Wish. Make-A-Wish is a wonderful oganization and we do not want to
make it appear as a hoax nor do we want to mislead anyone who is
trying to help support our daughter. Secondly the address is only 206
Slaney Loop. There is no Slaney Loop Rd."
