Stone Mountain Another Answer ???
I posted NOVA answer to the mystery of Stone Mountain and how it rolled
to Atlanta Georgia. I can live with their explaination. Now I have proplems with that great rock is Australia sitting by itself on that sandy desert. So I came up with it came from outer space. Now at first that sounded weird even to me. Then I remembered reading qabout two girls sitting on the sandy shore of a beach in Australia, and plunk a meteoite came down between them. It did not come down with great speed Hmmmm " very interesting" Read about the trunk of a car hit by a meteorite Damage not as bad as one might expect if it was traveling thousands of mph. Slow landing meteorites have good physics to show how they can land softly. I use this as my answer to the Australian stone mountain.(can't think of its name) Bert |

Also called Ayres rock. Now, there might be a little trouble saying it came from space - even a slow meteorite would have fractured around the edges due to its large size and the relatively low tensile strength of rock. Also it would be different from all other rocks in both composition and isotope percentages. Maybe it is a bit magnetic, which is why it attracts movie producers to itself like fleas to a dog. I wouldn't mind building myself a little home on top of a rock like that... Greysky |

Stone Mountain Another Answer ???
"G=EMC^2 Glazier" wrote in message ... I posted NOVA answer to the mystery of Stone Mountain and how it rolled to Atlanta Georgia. I can live with their explaination. Now I have Stone Mountain in Atlanta is basically the Big Toe of the Appalachian Mountains. Keep in mind that the Appalachian Mountains are some of the oldest on Earth, basically worn down to nubs, foothills. Whereas the Himalayas are Newborns, just 30,000 years old or so, geologically Spring Chickens. Stone Mountain was pushed up (again, geologically speaking) relatively recently. If you must go to Weird Science explanations of Stone Mountain, start the rumor that the Confederate carving on Stone Mountain was done by Aliens. No human could have carved such a massive thing! As for Ayers rock.... it's just a big rock. And the Aborigines consider it sacred, a place of The Dreaming. If I went there, I think I'd respect their wishes and not climb atop it. But I would walk completely around it, which would probably be a 12 mile hike or so. |

Stone Mountain Another Answer ???
Hi Greysky I would like to own the rock in Georgia it gets lots of
tourists spending cash money. Greysky the Earth was created by meteors merging together billions of years ago,so Ayres rock just came down after the Earth cooled. How different is rock in outer space than the rocks that created our rock planet.? Reality is some large meteor rocks did not originate in our solar system. Its true that earth rocks can be different than those in the Kuiper belt, because of different space differences that can create Sun's radiation on them being weaker or stronger etc. bert |

Stone Mountain Another Answer ???
Klazmon of Australia Have you been to the top of Ayres? Has its
mystery been solved like NOVA solving the mystery of Stone mountain? Is there any other Ayres in Australia? Are all meteorites made out of the same rock"? Mostly iron in my Florida meteorite. Stone Mountain is white rock, but not marble. It it was solid marble that would be nice. Georgia marble is very beautiful I have my bathroom done in it.,and window sills. Would love to visit Australia. Had a big crush on Olivia Newton John. Bert |

Stone Mountain Another Answer ???
Saul A meteorite coming in slow, and having a speed relative to the
Earth's spin can make a very soft landing. This has been proven to us many times. Size and being heavy fall at the same speed as light and small. At a very good angle(staying parrel to the Earth's curve as long as possible, and the air slowing the meteor down a hard crash landing need not happen. This comes under the uncertainty principle, with some probability, and a touch of chaos (why not) Bert |
