Venus probes

Just curious. Is it the heat or the pressure that seems to overwhelm probes
sent to that planet?

Mostly the heat. The pressure would be a minor nuisance if the
temperature weren't so high. (As it is, it makes the heat problem
worse, because the atmosphere is very dense and transfers heat into
a probe very enthusiastically.)

My understanding is that the early probes succumbed to the pressure before
the heat got the them
