It's dumping here now. Thanks Phil!

We can't be more than 15 miles apart by crow .. and it has rained but
little here. I guess being close the mountains makes La Canada much
rainier.

Long before I ever got into Astronomy, I was doing gardening. If I can't
make something grow it just can't grow at all. I have a garden area ( not
all used ) in the field next door that's at lest 100ft x 150ft and I have at
lest 200+ Iris and 100+ I.Canna growing plus my Bamboo patch too. I've
thrown a lot of BS over the long years.

Me, too .. but I cannot claim gardening as a reason :-)

Yeah, I just asked my girlfriend if she wanted to go watch the flood
channels crossing under Foothill. She decidely dismissed my suggestion.
It amazes me how well they've done the flood control here since we're
on the colluvial plain of Mt Lukens.

I hope you've got your scopes and computers to a dry place. It's

here, but not a drop of rain so far.

Yesterday I took a bag of steer manure out and spread it in my garden,

as
it's suppost to be weted down, normaly the act of doing that stops the

rain
from falling and I've got another bag at the ready for today.

Steer manu Isn't that the polite name for BS?

Dennis, you've just admitted to slinging you-know-what :-)

Seriously, now raining lightly in the L.A. (South Bay) area. We aren't
expected to get much today .. but much more on Monday or so. By then, I
may wish for a little BS myself: I will start on that project now :-)

I worry for my friends who have a farm a few miles east of Santa Rosa.
You drive *down* from the highway to their house, which is along a
(nomrally) small creek. During the last storm a couple of weeks ago
they had 4-5" of water in their garage. Fortunately, it is a tri-level
house, with maybe 25% at garage level. Not so fortunately: They are
visiting relatives near San Diego this weekend, and have left someone of
limited capability to feed the animals (goats, shhep, llamas, chickens,
etc.).

Bull**** can be a good thing, if used properly.

I think Dennis knows how to use it properly.

Others here on SAA have not learned this yet... Maybe some day...

I was at Mt. Gleason Junior High during the flood of 1969 when 13
houses were washed away down by Riverwood Ranch. Boy, when the Big
Tujunga watershed fills up, it really dumps water down the river!

Mt. Lukens? Boy, every kid I ever knew who lived there called it
Camelsback.

I lived on the corner of Fenwick and Mt. Gleason from 1959 to 1969. A
nice place to grow up, but the smog was just terrible.

Ah, cool, I grew up in Sylmar but just moved to La Canada. I'm not that
familiar with the area yet, especially the history, so that's a nice
piece of information.

Cool, I cross over on Mt Gleason all the time to get over to Big
Tiujunga. Had a nice hike up to Trail Cyn falls a week after I did an
epic 8 hour mtn bike hike/ride up Trail Cyn, to the flanks of Iron Mtn,
across Condor Peak to Fox Mtn, and down the Condor Pk/Fox Mtn trail. We
ended up back down on Big Tujunga at 7:30 pm, 2 1/2 hours after sunset.

Smog here in the fall was not as bad as expected. Seems the smog from
the LA basin blows from Pasadena eastward, and the smog in the valley
sticks around Pacoima/Sunland. Plus smog seems to be lighter now than
when I lived in Sylmar in the 80s.

And speaking of Mt Gleason, I had amazing daytime views one winter, I'd
like to head up there with our telescope this winter.

In the early 80's I lived on HillHaven south of foothill Blvd. in a place
bejind the main house that's been there since the late 1890's and in a small
way I wish I could own that land. It's about a full 5 ac's, and only has the
one house on it. Big woodframe place with lots of trees around it.

Stayed for about 2 months at a plae that overlooked Mt.Gleason Jr.high, it's
gone now the owner totaly screwed up and had to sell it, not a good sized
ranch stype home is there.
