Default Talk about getting lucky!!!!!

I will miss the first 2 hours or so of the transit because of a
meeting tonite.

Orion XT-12, Orion solar filter, Panoptic 35mm eyepiece

I caught the first few minutes of the transit and am now leaving for
my meeting. Here in eastern Virginia the transit started just before
1805 EDST. When about 75 prcent of Venus was on the edge of the sun,
I stuck my cellphone camera up to the eyepiece, snapped, and I GOT A
GOOD, SHARP PHOTO -- entire ball of the sun with a clear round dot on
the edgeT!!!!

Now if I could just get this lucky with wimmen!!!!

Nice and sunny at my house in SoCal, too. I watched the entire ingress through my filtered binos. Not a huge image scale, but clear as a bell.

I watched quite of bit of the transit by projecting the image with an
old "expendable" 60mm Jason refractor. Almost got clouded out at the
beginning, but then clear views after seeing a tiny dip at the Sun's
edge. Tried taking some pics of the projected image as things
progressed, but I'll have to wait to have 'em developed before I know
if that effort was worth the film. Got periodically clouded out, but
I got a good look, and I'm happy.

Clouds mostly did me in, but I did get to see the transit for maybe
a total of one minute with glimpses from 5:05-5:10 CDT.

Howdy Sam! I guess a minute's a lot better than nothing! I
posted one of my typical self-indulgent verbosities about my
observations a few minutes ago... that way I can print it off for my
log. Fun to look back on in years to come.
