Default UFO question

Hi,

This is a question for seasoned observers
regarding UFO's. NOT sci-fi alien encounters
and all that junk, rather strange objects you
have seen with no reasonable identification.
Hence unidentified. But have other plausable
causes.

I have had two strange observations in my
years as an amateur, both of which were
resolved.

The first instance was a V formation of pale
white objects going directly over my house
when I was around 13 years old just after dusk.
For years I cound not explain what I had seen, until about
20 years later. I observed the same sort of formation.
This time, however, there was still enough daylight to
identify the formation as the underside of canadian geese.

I suspect that years ago I saw the same thing
only a nearby parking lot provided good night time
illumniation.

My second observation was a formation of three
objects moving very quickly through my binoculars
while observing. They were satellite type objects,
but I had never seen any fly in formation.

A quick check on the internet identifed them as a
Navy tethered satellite array called NOSS.
Really freaked me out at the time.

Anyone with similiar observations ?

Jim

Default UFO question

When I lived in Hawaii on the windward side of oahu, I use to see what I
figured was plane lights moving along and when they where about 5 miles out
they'd go dark. One night I got my car and went down to the mil base on that
side which has runways and I hicked up a hill and watched. Turned out it was
F-117's coming in for refuel and sevicing and leaving before daylight came.
Now I live next door to Edwards AFB and we get to see all kinds of strange
birds flying around there.
And just 13 miles north is Mojave Spaceport, the home of Rutan who built
Space Ship 1 and I got to see all 3 of it's flights. Waiting now for the
test runs of the bigger spaceship's and because it's bigger, they are
building a bigger version of the White Knight aircraft which will carry it.

So I figure I'm in the right place.

One of the stranger things I've seen was wind whipped trail-like clouds
in the sky west of Las Vegas NV shortly after sunset. They were unlike
those from jet planes. They turned out to be missile contrails from a
launch at either Edwards or Vandenberg AFB (it's been a couple years).

As I live just about 60 miles from VBAFB, I get to watch anything they
launch, only time I don't see it is if they do a drop launch from Orbial's
special plane.

No offense, Starlord, but your sig reads like an intro to Stargate SG-1.
And we all know that that is fiction, right?

While on active duty (28 years, Army) I was stationed at Fort Leavenworth,
KS, for four years -- one year as a student at the Command and General Staff
College (77-78) and three years as an instructor (82-85).

Leavenworth is an hour or so north of Kansas City along the Missouri
River -- the river forms the eastern boundary of the post. The Missouri
River is part of the central US flyway -- a route used for centuries by
migrating birds, great flocks of which flew down the river in the
fall/winter and returned up the river in the spring.

A common sight at night was V's of white dots moving down/up the river --
formations of Canada Geese, their white undersides illuminated by the sun
that had already set for us on the ground but that was still hitting the
birds. They also honked as they flew -- the first time I saw this I was
startled -- I then made a point of watching for the migrations and taking my
children out to watch.

Actually, it's from the original Battlestar Galactica, if I remember
correctly. Maybe the new one too, as I haven't seen much of it.

About a year ago I went outside at my job at the time near Atlanta
Georgia around 5am or so looking up at the stars and getting close to
sunrise I would frequently see satalites. That morning I saw a
satalite going from south to north and watched it for several seconds
it then made a sharp 90' turn to the east like a pool ball banking off
a rail, I still don't have an explanation for it.

Satellites appear and disappear almost instantaneously, as
they enter or emerge from the Earth's shadow after sunset,
and before sunrise. I guess it might be possible that what
you saw was two separate satellites whose visual path
intersected right near the shadow's edge. One disappearing
and one appearing at almost the same visual point and time.
