Who's this "aide" people keep mentioning?

"...an aide said" - I saw a post in one of the sci.space groups, with a link
to a blog that mentioned this - but nobody's named the "aide" or the source
of the 'news' - could they (the big media groups) be quoting the blog and
not be willing to say so?

It's a blog for crying out loud - even the blogger doesn't name his source!

And in those days, giants walked among us.

If it's true, then it is indeed a sad day. He had an amazing mind; I've
only read one of his books - an autobiography and he was quite special in so
many ways - involved in early radar tests (the bio mentioned some of the
problems they were having); earliest SciFi writing was in his teens
(remember reading the story from the bio about getting his first stories
published).

All in all, 90's a pretty good innings for anyone, but it's always sad when
someone so significant dies.

I have a recording of him: he introduced the BBC radio adaptation of
_The Chrysalids_ for the BBC Home Service.
