I agree the "mostly likely" interpretation of the data at this point
is a bunch of "aliens" that seem a lot like humans. Maybe they have
interplanetary capability but they seem hang out in obscure parts
of the earth "a lot" of the time.
But interestingly the "space warp technology" some physicists argue
UFO's exhibit from time to time (e.g. "shape shifting") is a potential
FTL drive.
Warp drive uses the same part of General Rel that allowed the universe
to expand to ~100 bn LY diameter in 13 bn y.
Wasn't that situation explained away by postulating that the speed of
light used to be a heck of a lot faster than it currently is .... you
know, how things tend to get slower as they age??

I don't know if the "different speeds" idea is still an idea
that physicists back. It may be superceded. It was around before
the "modern cosmology" that explained how the universe could be so big,
with an origin so recent ("only" 14 bn y) and look about the same in all
directions. Parts that are in opposite dirs and now far apart seem to
have the same temperature so how could they have communicated their
temperature to each other even at an early stage of the universe?

The current operating theory is that not only did the things in
the universe expand away from each other and the singularity that
was the Big Bang, but that space itself expanded ("inflation") and
space doesn't have even a Relativity-induced speed limit, only things that
have to plod through it.

These concepts are science fiction with no comprehensive basis in
fact and certainly never demonstrated or obserned in any way.
There always has to be at least one "nay-sayer"??

Hmm! I would agree that we have not observed "The *whole* Universe" but
we have certainly observed *some* of the Universe!!

Who is to say just this one time he didn't guess wrong?
