mid 80's White Custom built C8

I've just come across a White tube C8 SCT in like new condition, for $1000
US.
Fork mounted setup. Built in the mid- 1980's. Includes original diagonals,
manuals, and a couple of period eyepieces.

The owner tells me that this was a limited custom Celestron build up. Looks
like it's never been used.

Anyone know anything about this particular model? Is $1000 a reasonable
asking price?
