Default MER raw imagery

It has been said that the cameras on the rovers uses automatic exposure
control, to maximize the S/N ratio and that sort of stuff. I'm wondering
why the guys at JPL don't release the exposure times with the raw images
they release? With things as they are now, simply combining the 3 right
channels won't produce an accurate "true" color image because typically on
Mars the blue channnel would be more exposed than the red one. This leads
to stuff like blue rocks, white skies etc.

Seeing as they went all the way to releasing all raw images to the public,
wouldn't this data be just an afterthought? That is, if the rovers return
exposure times at all?
