I am new to astronomy and have recently purchased a 130mm f7.7 Newtonian. I
have enjoyed looking at Mars and the moon was fantastic. Am I correct in understanding that Saturn and Jupiter will not be visible until late December this year/next year? If so what's currently visible with my scope? |

Hi
You need to download some star chart software to help you identify and locate targets. I can recommend cartes du ceil as its free and very good. There is a link from the links page on my web site. Some ideas for targets are the double cluster, Andromeda galaxy, M13, M27, double stars etc.... the list goes on... Jupiter is currently playing peek-a-boo behind the sun, and will be visible towards the end of the year. Saturn is visible most nights from about 01:30am ish, its in the constellation of Gemini - http://www.airporttransfers.biz/ep.html |

An other idea is to contact your local astronomical society (try searching for 'county/town astronomical society' on Google. Most let you attend a few times before you have to join (if you wish), and you'll get a lot of advice and help in getting the most out of your' scope. Clear Skies, Will Woodvine |
