If you believe in global warming, then you shouldn't fly to
Iceland. Swim maybe, or sail or row a boat. But not fly
there.

In fact, I did fly there. Other than being eight hours in a tin
can, it was a very pleasant flight. And I have doubts that
global warming has much to do with their history of volcanic
eruptions, which are the greatest hazard to air travel (as
demonstrated a few years ago).

Volcanoes have nothing to do with this.

That's what I said, yes.

No, it wasn't.

The ancestors of current-day Icelanders arrived in longboats
powered by wind, currents, and oars. If you were concerned
about your contributions to CO2 in the atmosphere, you should
have used some similarly green mode of transport.

And if you're worried about your contributions to CO2 in the
atmosphere, you should shut down your computer, put it in a box, and
throw it in a swamp. Along with every other device you own that uses
electricity.

If you are concerned about the effects of CO2 emissions, then you should stop flying and give up your electronics too.

Also, "throwing electronics in a swamp" is bad for the environment. There are proper ways to dispose of unwanted electronics and that is not one of them.

Swamps are important features of healthy environments. But your flying habits have already demonstrated your lack of concern about what you do.

There's circular reasoning for you!

No circular reasoning there. My neighbour is a scientist working on genetic
modification of potatoes to prevent blight (amongst other projects). A
reasonable use for a powerful technique. But engineering tolerance to
insecticides which then kill useful insects is not a good use. Especially
since the insects feeding on the plants breed fast enough to evolve
tolerance while bees, which are being hit by a virus disease are being
weakened by insecticide exposure.
Another consequence of genetic modification is the increase in monoculture.
The endpoint of this is the sudden emergence of a viral, bacterial of
fungal infection which destroys the whole crop. It’s already happened once
to bananas, which are grown as clones, and may soon happen again.

Your statement was still circular reasoning.

Rubbish!
Genetic modification is not wrong.
Most uses of genetic modification are wrong.
Where is the circle.

That is not an effective reply. He isn't concerned. He wants
those people who _are_ concerned with this (according to him)
imaginary nonsense of global warming to throw their computers
away, so that they won't bother him again.

Of course, they won't fall for that rhetorical trick.

You referring to Skippy or me? Or, rather, are you imagining you're
referring ti Skippy or me, cuz I doubt you have any clue what either
of us (or youself, for that matter) are actually saying.

Which is just a day that ends in "y."

You and JKTK are concerned about the relatively small CO2
emissions of others, but not concerned at all about your own
much larger emissions. Hypocrites, you all are.

In your minds, if you admit to wrecking the environment, then
it's OK for you to wreck the environment. If someone else shows
any degree of climate skepticism, but otherwise shows respect
for the environment along with belief in science, then you try
to belittle them and try to blame everything on them. Your
individual and collective illogic is astounding, but not
surprising.

Yours is NOT a good recipe for trying to get your point across,
whatever that point actually is. And with hypocritical greenies
that can very difficult to tell.

If you are concerned about rising sea levels, then demonstrate
your concern by staying off of aircraft, for starters.

You prove my point. You get called out for your wasteful use of
fossil fuel and your hypocrisy about it, and then you resort to
trying to belittle your "attacker." Give it a rest, hypocrite.

You're still using civilization dstroying electricity to post to
usenet, son. You're projecting your own self-hatred onto others. If
you actually cared about the environment, you'd stop using
electricity entirely. But you won't, because you don't.

Yes, it does. The manufacture of solar panels generates all sorts
of greehouse gasses, as does the manufacture of even hydroelectric
generators.

And for people to *read* your posts, they have to use electricity,

And *all* electricity eventually ends up as waste heat.

It is not. This is about the hypocrisy of your being a warmingist who makes unneeded airplane flights, when a rowboat could serve instead.

And by the way, shorten your screen name and get rid of your stupid tag line. That should reduce the load on the servers, save some power and help hide the fact that you are a hypocritical wastrel.

Every post you make kills another butterfly.

Every plane trip you make helps kill off entire species, perhaps.

So don't complain about CO2 emissions when you are a major contributor to them.
