ADDers naturally spend more time in a luminal space. Saves them energy.

Is that what ADD is, a faster working brain?

Then what are the pills supposed to do, dumb you down to be at the
speed as the rest of us?

Double-A

That's one way of looking at the therapeutic effect. Some people say that the
medication actually makes them tired, or puts them to sleep.

There are 3 official subtypes of ADHD, as currently described in the DSM-IV;
and the leading researchers, eg, Xaxier Castellanos, beleive there are likely
many more subtypes, with diverse underlying pathways leading to symptomatic
expression.

All this is fancy way of saying this: ADHDers are a diverse lot, and current
clinical literature describes the limitations of our current knowledge. There's
much more to learn, as Dr. Castellanos would surely say.

But the horizon is exciting and promising. With the advent of neuroimaging
technology, eg, MRI, we are now at an exciting threshold. For the first time,
we can witness how the brain goes about its business, while the brain is doing
such business this very moment.

You might want to check out the ADD usenet group, if this topic interest you. A
fun, helful gang hangs out there -- some of my oldest online buds.
Exceptionally bright, clever people!

I already read it (because you post there).

And your buds over there are worried about you.

Forgive my lack of clarity in answering your insightful question; I used to
write about ADD frequently, but alas, I've not in a while, so my writing may be
less than clear.

In short, ADD meds "normalize" a person's brain function and metabolism. Some
meds work well for specific subtypes (eg, hyper), while the same meds may be
ineffective for another (eg, inattentive).
For determing if a med works, the best way, currently, is trial and effort. But
peopel say tht when it works, it works! Hard to argue with that!

Well, goodness; they are acting darn strange themselves!

You know me, I'm just a Libra: Instinctively seeking balance. If everyone
around me is acting extremely whacky, I seek to adjust myself to their
normative waterlevel. Reality is sort of like that: A consensus, statistically
determined, a sort of communal Gravitas, so to speak, although there are
enduring values and biological imperatives that also factor into our calibrated
Reality, uppercase R.

BV You can argue,as long as you don''t try to win your argument by
being cute, and by being cute I mean bringing a person down by trying to
make a liar out of that person. People that lie to make their point I
can't live with. People that try to show a person lying and that person
has to prove he is not lying to the accuser, does not know **** about our
American way that has a person innocent tell "proven by the accuser
otherwise"

Bert, I have no idea what you are talking about. You stated there are no
atoms inside a BH. I asked a few questions about that idea, so I could
better understand you. I am not being cute. I am not argueing. I am asking a
question.

PS Lying NO a little fudge once in a great
while Hmmmmm

I didn't accuse of lieing. I asked a question. Honestly Bert, I am trying to
engage your topics, and you are attacking me needlessly.

BV.

Sounds like a psychiatric definition of reality.

Double-A

Exactly, since the DSM is based on normative position in range.

Although the V is supposed to be far supperior and more nuanced, also,
apparently, more embrasive of personal/cultural idiosyncricies.

The APA site has available an early annoated draft of DSM V objectives, for the
revision. Looks quite interesting.

I wrote the most poems in the years when I was unhappy. In the
happier years there seemed to be no inspiration, no need for an
outlet.

You must be very unhappy to be writing all these beautiful poems.

Double-A

Thank for the compliment. I know what you mean, about associating poetry
inspiration with difficult periods of one's life, or unhappiness. Yes, I
certainly think circumstances that place a inordinate amount of stress upon us
-- or those that derail us off accustomed tracks -- may force us to find new
outlets, via language, or otherwise. Poetry can be overflow of meaning seeking
form, or perhaps a process seeking understanding. Or sometimes, just play,
mere joy exceeding bounds. And well, some types of poetry may offer a more
satisfying form of expression, closer to one's true feeling.

Anyway, as I write this, I am reminded of both the range and many diverse types
of poetry: some innocenlty spontaneous, others carefuly wrought and polished
through conscious work.

Me unhappy with these recent spontaneous exultations? Not at all. If they go
away, then ask me if I am unhappy.

Have you written any poetry recently?

BV I'm still burning over the 2 billion NASA stole, and you tried to make
me out to be a person who has to prove I heard it on CNN. That has
nothing to do with atoms. Did you ever think of apologizing. Bert
