Heck Bert, just take a deep breath, hold your nose, go to www.google.com
and type in 'Jupiter statistics'. You'll get oodles and oodles of
information on anything you'd ever want to know about the Jovian orb. oc

the planet's equatorial radius is 4638 km (2882 mi.) longer than its
polar radius. Its ellipticity (the ratio between this figure and the
equatorial radius) is nearly twenty times the earth's.

Hi Odysseus I still don't know how deep is Jupiter atmosphere. We can
say the Earth's is 25 miles deep.Jupiter's atmosphere can't be to heavy
having so much hydrogen and helium.in proportion to the earth's
atmosphere,that has really none of both. Still don't know why it has
such a fast spin,and I think this fast spin needs more thought. Bert

No, it was once smaller and attracted a huge quantity of small dust particles.
At the birth of the solar system, all this dust and gases was travelling in
about the same direction. It is the accumulated effects of all thoses small
collisions that makes Jupiter ( and Saturn... ) to spin around that fast. That
phenomenon is called "conservation of angular momentum".

Does this help account for its very strong magnetic field?

Yes. deep inside Jupiter is a mantle of metallic hydrogen ( i am not a
physisist: ask me no further question on metallic hydrogen!!!) and the fast
rotation rate produce a lot of stirrup! And moving electrons DO produce a
magnetic field.
The fact that Jupiter gives off
radiation tells me gravity is compressing its gas,and that would make
Jupiter smaller and smaller in time.

It as reached a state of equilibrium now.

Why is there no great bulge at its equator?

Trust Odysseus on that one, he knows!
Does Jupiter give off radio waves?

Yes but it is nothing compared to the radio waves produced by the interactions
between Jupiter and Io. We can sometimes hear them on a shortwave radio tuned
between 20 and 25 megaHertz. Absolutly impressive!

Is its eye much
hotter than the gases on the opposite side of the planet? The eye looks
like a chaotic condition of the atmosphere,possibly formed from
Jupiter's speed of spin,and that means its area of spin(like a
hurricane) must be at its equator. Can I say the eye spins counter
clock wise in my line of view? Since it is easy to see it must give off
much light photons. Could the eye be a plasma,or is it
not that hot .? Bert


400 years after its discovery, the greatest minds of this planet are not sure
about what the Great Red Spot is exactly... We know that it spin
counterclockwise and it is surrounded by "Small White Spots" that spin
clockwise. We also know that it is a high pressure barometric system ( it
stands higher than the surrounding clouds ). We know there are a lot of
hydrogen in it. That's about it. Here, your speculations are about as good as
anyone's else. Good night!

This is why all launchpads on Earth are
directed toward east AND are as close to the equator as they can be.


Vandenberg AFB on the U.S. west coast is used for polar orbit launches.
