It is the equating of probability with evidence.
Agreed. Go ask Alice for tea. Another friend of mine. Tell her I asked especially nice, Because I know she's thrice Betrayed me. That's part of the story, you know. Can't have all the players Sweet and nice. Too bland a mix of Christmas dogs; The gallery needs rogues, Too. That's a klew. Oh, the vista here is a lovely true blew. Paul Lawler wrote: The evidential basis lies with the claim, not the claimant. I understand what you are saying, and in fact I agree. However, I still stand by my contention that to say it is "obvious" is inaccurate, as the currently demonstrable evidence does not support the existence of ET (i.e., they are probably out there, but we haven't seen any yet). We haven't seen any photons either, we infer that they exist. All of science is inferential. All of the evidence that science has given us pushes the probability of extraterrestrial life closer to unity, and it is already so close to unity now, that to deny the evidence, is to deny all of science. The entire house of cards would fall. Consider dark matter and energy, not only is the earth not the center of the universe, the sun is not the center of the universe, the milky way is not the center of the universe, matter and energy itself is not even the primary stuff of the universe, we are not even made of the main stuff of the universe, yet you claim that there is a possibility that Earth holds the only life in the universe, or even that biological life is the only form of life possible? Apparently you are not keeping up with progressive developments in science. http://www.jameskay.ca/ http://www.fes.uwaterloo.ca/u/jjkay/pubs/thesis/6.pdf http://www.fes.uwaterloo.ca/u/jjkay/pubs/thesis/a1.pdf You are really 'out there', if you think there is *NO* evidence for ET. Apparently you are not keeping up with progressive developments in science. I maid no such claims. In fact, quite the opposite. I said that I agree with you that the probability is quite high. You are really 'out there', if you think there is *NO* evidence for ET. Small correction. I didn't say there was no evidence "for" ET, I said there was no evidence "of" ET. |
