Sit back and realize what you just read...the idea is to make germ

peoples....nifty, huh?

Are they declaring this as a goal for the US to attain, or as a probable
event to occur somewhere in the world?

So, with thinking like this, could somebody remind me just why
we should be on the winning side in any future global conflict?

You're right. Cheney & Co. are evil. Please shoot yourself.

Sigh.

Yeah- genocide without the need to build all those death camps.

So, with thinking like this, could somebody remind me just why
we should be on the winning side in any future global conflict?

"homopolar generators"? Sounds like a gay sex toy. "Hit 'em hard- and
hit 'em the bounce!"? Not sure that I understand this current fantasy
and not sure that I want to.

Uh, no. Idiot movie-maker, "Starship Troopers". None of that appears
in Heinlein's novel.

You should see what one of them suckers can do...let me rephrase that.
I saw a demonstration of one on TV around a decade or so ago- the device
was around the size of a desk, and once the rotor was up to full speed,
they activated it and turned its rotational energy into electricity in
around a second or two- the output was so great that the solid copper
output bar (around an inch in diameter) glowed red hot. The were working
on it to drive lasers and rail guns.

"Hit 'em hard- and hit 'em the bounce!"? Not sure that I understand
this current fantasy and not sure that I want to.

Has someone not been reading their Heinlein?
Actually it should be "hit 'em _on_ the bounce"
from http://www.trooperpx.com/SSTgame/imgFAQ/faqvanilla.html
"4.7 What does "on the bounce" mean?
"On the bounce" is a common phrase among troopers. It refers to the
ability of 1st and 2nd Class armor suits to jump over the battlefield.
Bouncing is an extremely useful tactic, allowing rapid advancement
across the mission terrain."

The thing they carefully never mentioned in the press releases was that a
big rack full of truck batteries actually worked better, delivering the
same output with less mass and much lower cost. The homopolar-generator
guys kept promising that the *next* version was going to do better...

The experimental railgun at Eglin AFB ran off a big shed full of Sears
Die-Hards.

I enjoy science fiction but I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't read
much Heinlein.

The one story I did read was very tedious and I never read any more
Heinlein after that. Although I've been told the stuff he wrote in his
youth is much better than the latter works.

I'll check out _Starship Troopers_ my next library vist.

Do us all a favor and move to North Korea.

Report back in a year how much you enjoy life there. Oh, wait, they
won't let you use the internet, send a letter instead, oh wait...
