(Nobody denies UFOs are real. The claim that they're alien visitors is a pretty good litmus test for insanity, though.) |

(Nobody denies UFOs are real. The claim that they're alien visitors is a pretty good litmus test for insanity, though.) Early critics of the potential dangers of high speeds on human passengers of early steam trains are now seen as completely bizarre. The fears of achieving what was then "warp speed" behind Stephenson's Rocket were very real at the time. Doesn't the mere fact that UFO sightings are classified by most governments make them far more serious [and thereby interesting?] Than if they had always been in the public domain as fascinating but inexplicable phenomenon? How many far better sightings or images exist but are never reported out of fear of ridicule? An explanation for the dark, featureless, "cheese wedge" which cruised slowly over our garden is still awaited decades later. Was there any relationship with our being on the normal flight path from a local, major airfield? Will the "black triangles" ever be de-classified? They would seem to offer very little danger given the total lack of photon torpedo attacks on any known, sensitive targets. Or should we now all become totally paranoid about "time travelers" instead of space traveling aliens? Glimpses "across the mists of time" might well fill in a lot of the present blanks regarding our UFO sightings. Not to mention many inexplicable artifacts in human art. Not to mention the odd-god legends. Time is sometimes referred to as only a human perception of reality. Might time be prone to interference effects, refraction, diffraction or distortion? These exist in high gravity situations. Why not around small, random, sub-micro singularities? Perhaps they pass through us constantly, like neutrinos and only occasionally affect the brain in some strange way? "A half pint of Matrix Best Ale, please?" Calling anything "nuts" is hardly a scientific approach. Unless, of course, you are discussing 1347½ ravings from the bottom of his creaking and rotting beer crate. Or some of the paranoid numbsculls peddling their wares on YT in exchange for advertising revenue? "More Blood Wine, bartender and make it quick!! Glory awaits those who dare!" ;-) |

Doesn't the mere fact that UFO sightings are classified by most governments make them far more serious... And that's how it's done, folks. You lay down a false premise such as "UFO sightings are classified by most governments" and non-critical, non-questioning thinkers assimilate that falsehood as fact and you've got em; they're fodder for your myth machine. -- I agree with almost everything that you have said and almost everything that you will say in your entire life. usenet *at* davidillig dawt cawm |

Some people are such cynics! Next you'll be saying the little green men in our wardrobe aren't repairing their escape pod to get back to their flying saucer up there in permanent orbit! They say they only came here to clear up the artifacts left by an earlier exploratory mission. The Egyptian Gods had rained thunderbolts down upon them back then. So they panicked and up and left in their only remaining craft.. The return mission didn't go much better because they were using Nazi VW data for smog particles in the atmosphere to aid their braking and concealment. It turned into a complete **** storm and they've been in there, hammering away, for decades. They won't let us sell the house because their Big Secret would soon get out and they'd be turned into yet more lab rats by the CIA. We can't last much longer before going into a retirement home. But their ray guns can really sting when they get cross with us! What do you think we should do? Worried @ The White House |

If that's what they were, obviously alien technology vastly in advance of our own would be of immense value and concern - and possibly hostile intentions on the part of those aliens would be as well. So the fact that in 1948 and thereabouts the military was secretly amassing what it knew about these possible alien visitors was only reasonable. That doesn't, however, change the fact that decades down the road, with UFO sightings not leading anywhere as reliably as ghost signtings or Bigfoot sightings, it no longer makes sense to take them seriously. Arthur C. Clarke and Carl Sagan presented one of the most basic arguments. With our advancing command of microelectronics, it is obvious to us that if aliens advanced enough to travel between the stars came to Earth, but did not wish to make contact, they would have the ability to conduct surveillance in a very discreeet manner, far beyond our ability to notice. John Savard There have been visual/radar sightings of unknown flying objects going back at least to WW2. "Bogies" performed maneuvers and speeds on radar which completely eclipsed human flight capabilities. Yet we still have no real idea what causes these "bogies?" Presumably they would have to be non-terrestrial in origin otherwise everybody would easily recognise what they were simultaneously seeing and sensing. If humans were incapable of such flights of fancy then who else is thereto put on the show? A yellow school bus hovering over LA would demand instant recognition right down to its exact markings. Racist cops would be taking wild shots at "the person of green colour" in the driving seat. The same would occur if a yellow school bus was flying overhead almost anywhere else in the world. Sharing [default shaky] video and images globally might actually bring the Internet to its knees. Yet this has never happened despite the vast array of constantly advancing, imaging technology now in a billion pockets. Not to mention near global coverage of defense sensing systems and supposed quick reaction forces. |

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.
