Well, no, it can't. And I wish you luck spoofing ANI, which I believe
is a crime.

=================================================

CALLER ID can easily be spoffed, as anyone who gets tele marketing calls can attest.

There was and probably is a web site where for a couple bucks you can spoof caller ID. Had a buddy call me, the system said I called myself..

I dont knnow if ANI can be spoofed, and really it doesnt matter.

So you claim, but past experience with you indicates that most of what

you claim to remember or have seen just turns out to be rather

dubious.

Hint: Caller ID spoofing is generally illegal in the United States.

It does if you're calling me. You'd be dialing into a corporate

switchboard that receives ANI info.

most business phone systems come with spoffing ability built in.

its commonly used by bill collectors to try and get the person being called to pick up the phone....

Bob is right when he says that telemarketers do this on a regular basis.
This is one of those rare occurrences where the broken clock is showing
the right time.

I get spoofed caller ID numbers several times a week from some shady
companies trying to convince me I can "lower my interest rate on my
credit cards". They've recently started spoofing the caller ID number
to look like it's local. Specifically, only the last two digits are
different than my own, so it looks like one of my neighbors is calling
me. I'm hesitant to block these numbers in case someone local does try
to contact me for a legitimate reason (e.g. "I think I just found your
dog, because I called the phone number on her dog tag.").

Why don't you try breaking the law and see, Bobbert? I suppose that a

website pointing out what will kill human beings means that homicide

law "must not be followed closely", too, if your name happens to be

Bobbert...

The rate of intentional homicides is 7.6 per 100,000 -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._homicide_rate

So, this is a total 541,120 intentional homicides per year at present.

This is less than half the death rate due to road traffic which is 18.0 per 100,000 -1,281,600 traffic related deaths per year.

Hey just this moment I got a call from card services. Caller ID NEVER shows their name and the caller ID phone number appears random and not a working number...

they drone on about calling them press ??? to get no futher calls from them.

doing anything appears to increase the number of calls

So Fred, where are the links about proscuetion?

Plus it appears that phone solicitors are exempt. They are just very annoying
