A common site in movies, the proverbial small refractor mounted near a window. This was probably more common when houses had big bay windows out front than now that few do. People may remember a Questar ad showing a Questar on a table near a window. Keeping a small scope permanently mounted is also a way to avoid procrastination when it comes to "Should I go out or not?" syndrome. A small apo, on a light mount or tripod is certainly no struggle, even if someone is tired. I've tested stuff on my balcony, but have never done more than casual observation of the moon with binoculars out any windows. My solution for those nights when time is tight is an old C-8. The optics aren't the best and the fork mount is bouncy, but I can trundle it out to the back yard and set it up in 2 minutes. Did so last night, in fact, before the clouds rolled back in. The moon, Saturn and M42 are hardly earthshattering targets, but when the last astronomically useful night was in October, you have to take what you can get...
