In German 'ei' is pronounced as a long I sound. If fact 'ei' is egg in
German. The 'ie' is pronounced with a long E. So, yes "Dietz" is deets and
"Deitz" is Die-tz. Pretty confusing, but no more confusing than you
changing the way you spell your name.
