Hi Gillaume, At CARA at Antartica, there was one Telescope called
SPIREX which was made by a Scientist/Astronomer/Engineer I know, which did use 2 Celestron 11" SCT Telescopes as Guide Scopes for the Main Scope, which I believe was doing reseach in the Infrared Wavelengths. That being said, it is then possible, probably with the correct modifications, to use a commercially available scope at the S-Pole. Sorry for my earlier post in somewhat disbelieving you staying a winter in Antartica. I cannot even fathom/comprehend what it must be like at the bottom of the world during this time of year! Temperatures at which Steel can turn into Peanut Brittle. I wish you the best of luck, a safe trip, and hope you figure something out for a usable scope to enjoy. Mark |
