Newbie's first serious scope

Hi,

I have never used this group, so sorry if I have flouted some faq or
rules or summat.

Question:

What kind of telescope and size should i get?

I am looking to spend £150-£250 ($200-$350.) Looking around it looks
like i would be best with a 80ishmm refractor or a 114mm reflector.
Are there any dud brands I should avoid. what about false colour in
the refractor and the central blind spot in the reflector. I live in
the countryside and so light pollution isn't a prob. Space isn't an
issue.
Should i spend the extra cash and get a 6-inch reflector?

Sorry to grave dig, but I re-read one of my 'start astronomy' etc.
books and it highlighted the merits of a reasonable 6-inch reflector.
Now I have found an Orion (UK) 6-inch reflector on equ. mount with
slo-mo (?) controls for well under £400. Has anyone used this scope
and what is the quality like. I would much rather spend £380 on a
scope I will use rather than £280 on a scope that will get used
rarely. Thanks!
