If it is the will of the local people of East Ukraine to hold a referendum,
how is that an "unofficial" or "illegal" act according to Western governments? I call it democracy in action, even if they choose to be Russian, speak Russian and want a Russian way of life. Sudan split in two, Czechoslovakia split in two, Ireland split in two, The Scots are planning a referendum to get out of the UK and good riddance, so what's the big deal with East and West Ukraine? -- Lord Androcles, Zeroth Earl of Medway |

Those who have, or can sieze, power - do whatever the hell they want to do - and with that power comes the ability to define what's legal/legit - or not.. Occaisionally, transitions can occur without violence - but more often than not these processed are achieved thru viloence. US Civil War, American Revolution, Russian Revolution, etc. The Victors define legal, they write the history, they make the rules... at least they get to do that until someone comes along to knock them off their perch... Rinse and repeat. -- Email address is a Spam trap. |

Therefore it is illegal. Unfortunately for Ukraine, it did not join NATO. The Baltic States did. |
